From Capitol Rioter to Pentagon Employee: The Controversial Journey of Elias Irizarry

A Citadel Cadet who was involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack has been hired to work at the Pentagon in the Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict office. Elias Irizarry, who also ran as a Republican candidate for state House District 43, was captured on video participating in the attack and entering the Capitol through a broken window. He pleaded guilty to the charges and served a 14-day jail sentence. Despite being suspended by The Citadel, he was later pardoned by President Trump. Irizarry lost in the Republican primary for the South Carolina State House by a significant margin. He is now working in the irregular warfare and counterterrorism section of the Pentagon, which focuses on operations like embassy security, personnel recovery, and hostage rescue.
