Tragic Chain-Reaction Crash on Interstate 95: Bus Driver Indicted on Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

The bus driver involved in the tragic chain-reaction crash on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, has been indicted on five counts of involuntary manslaughter and a reckless driving charge. Jing Sheng Dong, 48, from Staten Island, New York, was driving the bus that failed to slow down for traffic approaching a work zone, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to many others. Dong had a history of speeding violations, including a previous arrest for speeding while driving a coach bus in Maryland.
Dong's reckless driving led to a devastating crash that claimed the lives of five individuals and caused injuries to numerous others. The bus, operated by E&P Travel Inc. of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, was carrying passengers from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the bus collided with multiple vehicles, including a Chevrolet Suburban and an Acura, resulting in a tragic chain-reaction crash.
The victims of the crash included Dmitri Doncev, Ecaterina Doncev, Emily Doncev, Mark Doncev, and Priscilla R. Mafalda, who tragically lost their lives in the collision. The Doncev family, from Greenfield, Massachusetts, and Priscilla R. Mafalda, from Worcester, Massachusetts, were among those who perished in the accident. The NTSB investigation revealed that Dong's failure to slow down while approaching the work zone was a significant factor in the crash.
Jing Sheng Dong is currently hospitalized and recovering from injuries sustained in the crash. Once released, he will be taken into custody and face legal proceedings in the Stafford General District Court and the Stafford Circuit Court. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's compliance snapshot showed one injury crash involving E&P Travel Inc.'s vehicles in the past two years, with a satisfactory safety rating for the company.
