Remembering Michael D. Johnson: 16th Annual 5K Walk and Run Scholarship Fundraiser
The 16th annual 5K walk and run organized by the Michael D. Johnson Memorial Foundation took place at War Memorial Grounds in Jackson, raising scholarship funds for graduating students from various high schools in the area. The foundation was established to commemorate the life and achievements of Michael D. Johnson, a talented athlete from Jackson who tragically passed away at the age of 18. Johnson was known for his prowess in baseball and basketball at Murrah High School, where he played a pivotal role in securing a state championship for his team. Each year on May 30th, the foundation pays tribute to Johnson's memory through scholarships and the annual 5K event.
Participants in the event emphasized the importance of unity, remembrance, and supporting a noble cause by coming together early in the morning to take part in the walk and run. Following the race, the foundation recognized the recipients of this year's scholarships, continuing its mission to honor Johnson's legacy and provide educational opportunities for deserving students from the community.
