A tragic incident occurred on Sunday night when a van carrying seven Uganda Revenue Authority officials collided with an elephant near Karuma Checkpoint in Murchison Falls National Park. The crash, which took place around 8:00 PM, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including URA tax educator Robert Wamala Rumanyika. Four others sustained critical injuries, including the driver, who lost control of the vehicle after hitting the elephant. The injured victims were promptly taken to Kiryandongo Hospital for medical treatment before being transferred to Kampala for further care.

Following the accident, the bodies of the deceased were transported to Anaka Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations. Police spokesman Mr. Michael Kananura emphasized the importance of caution when driving through national parks and wildlife-protected areas, particularly at night. He urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise extreme care to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
