International Burglary Ring Targeting American Athletes Arrested in Chile: Details and Extradition Process

Chilean authorities announced the arrest of three individuals wanted by the FBI for allegedly burglarizing the homes of American athletes in 2024 and 2025. The suspects, who also targeted athletes in Argentina, stole valuable items like jewelry, watches, and sports memorabilia. Two of the suspects were apprehended after breaking into the residence of former tennis player Juan Martin del Potro, prompting the arrest of a third member of the gang in Chile. The FBI had requested arrest warrants for extradition of the suspects. In response to a series of burglaries targeting professional athletes in the U.S., Chilean police did not disclose the names of the American athletes affected. The suspects, charged in the U.S. in February 2025, are accused of stealing over $2 million worth of valuables. They will face justice in the U.S. or Argentina due to their criminal activities outside Chile.
