Syria Holds Parliamentary Elections in Kurdish-Majority Areas of Hassakeh and Kobani

Syria recently conducted parliamentary elections in the Kurdish-majority northeastern province of Hassakeh and the town of Kobani. These areas were brought back under government control following clashes in January. The rest of Syria had already voted for the People's Assembly last October, after the Assad regime was overthrown by rebels. However, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces still held control over significant parts of the northeastern region, including Hassakeh and Kobani.
