FDA Report: No Definitive Link Between Child Deaths and Covid Vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released a report stating that no child deaths have been definitively linked to Covid vaccines. This report was made public after former FDA vaccine chief Dr. Vinay Prasad claimed, without evidence, that there were at least 10 unreported child deaths related to the vaccines. The FDA's analysis, which was part of a letter from Senator Ron Johnson to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., reviewed 96 reports of child deaths submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and found no cases that were certain to be linked to Covid vaccination.

VAERS is a system where anyone can report health problems that occur after vaccination, but the reports alone do not establish causality. The FDA's analysis concluded that none of the reported child deaths were definitively linked to Covid vaccination. While five deaths were classified as "possible" and two as "probably," the agency emphasized that these classifications do not confirm that the vaccine caused the deaths and that other explanations could not be ruled out. Most of the cases involved myocarditis, a rare inflammation of the heart that has been associated with Covid shots, particularly in teen boys and young men.

Dr. Jesse Goodman, a former FDA chief scientist, noted that the FDA authors were cautious in their assessment of the cases and that the report was carefully done. The FDA reviewed medical records, death certificates, and in some instances, interviewed the children's parents to determine the link between the deaths and Covid shots. Dr. Ofer Levy, who leads the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children's Hospital, highlighted that while the risk of myocarditis from Covid vaccination is present, infections are the primary cause of this condition. He mentioned that various viruses and other infections can trigger inflammation of the heart, and mild cases usually resolve with rest and monitoring, while severe cases may require hospitalization.

In conclusion, the FDA's analysis found no definitive link between child deaths and Covid vaccines. The report emphasized the importance of careful assessment and consideration of alternative explanations for adverse events reported to VAERS. While some cases were classified as "possible" or "probably" associated with the vaccine, the FDA did not confirm a causal relationship. It is essential to continue monitoring and evaluating vaccine safety to ensure public health protection.
