Britney Spears' DUI Arrest: A Closer Look at the Incident and Legal Consequences
Britney Spears was arrested for driving under the influence and claimed to be an "angel" before officers took her into custody. She declined an alcohol screening test and had an unauthorized bottle of Adderall in her purse. Spears admitted to taking prescription medications before driving and initially refused to exit her vehicle when approached by officers.
Officers noticed an alcoholic odor in the vehicle and described Spears as having slurred speech and an unsteady gait. She claimed to have only had one mimosa earlier in the day. Spears displayed drastic mood swings during the interaction with officers and was eventually determined to be under the influence of a CNS Stimulant.
Following a drug recognition evaluation, Spears was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, where she became argumentative and belligerent. She was then transported to Ventura County Jail and later resolved her DUI charge with a plea deal for a "wet reckless" offense.
The plea deal included fines, probation, time served, and a DUI course. Spears took responsibility for the misdemeanor offense and entered a guilty plea. The DUI charges stated that she unlawfully drove a vehicle under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. Spears voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility following her arrest.
