Sia's Return: The Fan-Driven Revival of the Survivor Prize Tradition

Survivor fans have a special place in their hearts for Sia, the Grammy-nominated pop star who has generously given away over $1 million to contestants over eight seasons. After a hiatus, Sia is reviving her tradition for the season 50 finale with a twist that involves fans in the decision-making process.
The Sia Prize, initiated in 2016, was a personal cash reward for players whose stories resonated with the singer. Despite surpassing the $1 million mark, host Jeff Probst halted the tradition due to concerns about Sia's generosity. Now, a decade later, the Sia Prize is making a comeback, with fans being asked to vote for the player who embodies the qualities Sia admires.
In line with this season's theme of "In the Hands of the Fans," the Sia Prize winner will be revealed during the season finale and will receive a substantial $100,000 prize. Sia's representatives have not yet commented on the return of the prize.
Probst shared that Sia was enthusiastic about participating in Survivor 50's fan-centric theme and suggested involving fans in selecting the Sia Prize winner. The last time Sia awarded her prize was in 2023, with Katurah Topps winning $100,000 and two other contestants receiving $15,000 each.
Season 50 of Survivor has a strong musical connection, with artists like Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Zac Brown contributing to the show. Probst explained that musicians like Sia are drawn to Survivor because of its authenticity and vulnerability, similar to sharing one's art.
Sia's recent solo album, Reasonable Woman, was released in 2024, and she also celebrated the 10th anniversary of her This Is Acting LP earlier this year. Survivor fans can catch the show on CBS and Paramount+ on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
