Target's Expansion: Opening Over 30 New Stores in 2022 and Beyond

Target is expanding its footprint with plans to open more than 30 new stores this year. The retailer recently welcomed customers to several new locations, with more on the way. Target aims to have over 300 new stores by 2035, with a store within 10 miles of most U.S. doorsteps.
Six new Target stores opened recently in Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, and New Jersey. The retailer is now focusing on 48 communities across 28 states, with Texas, Florida, and Utah set to see the most growth in new locations.
Job listings indicate that new stores in various locations, including Little Elm, Firestone, Brookings, and Lake Nona, are expected to open this summer. Additional stores are planned for next year in cities like East Mesa, Denver, and Monument, with some locations like Chelsea slated for 2027 or 2028.
Target's expansion will anchor new or growing developments in communities like Meridian, Winter Haven, and Fayetteville. In other areas, Target is taking over former retail spaces, such as old Sears and Macy's locations, vacant Kmart stores, and malls under redevelopment.
Some cities may also see new locations from other retailers like Buc-ee's, Raising Cane's, and Costco in the coming years. Target's growth reflects its commitment to reaching more customers and expanding its presence nationwide.
