Ukrainian Drone Attack in Moscow Region: Casualties and Retaliation Escalate Conflict

Overnight, a Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region resulted in the deaths of three individuals, according to Russian officials. The attack caused casualties in various locations, including a house in Khimki and the village of Pogorelki. Additionally, 12 people were injured in strikes on a city oil refinery in Moscow, with Russia's military intercepting 556 drones. In response, Ukraine reported eight injuries from Russian drone attacks and shelling in the central Dnipropetrovsk region.
Regional governor Andrei Vorobiev confirmed the casualties and damage caused by the drone attack in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also provided details on the injuries sustained during the attack, including damage to a city oil refinery and nearby houses. Sheremetyevo Airport, Russia's busiest airport, reported drone wreckage on its premises but assured that passenger services were unaffected.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to retaliate for the deadly Russian attack on Kyiv and other regions. He highlighted Ukraine's destruction of high-value Russian military equipment and ongoing operations targeting Russian oil facilities and ships. Ukraine's military has intensified strikes on key energy facilities in Russia, considering them legitimate targets supporting Russia's war effort.
In response to the drone attacks, Russia conducted more than 30 drone and shelling attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in injuries and property damage. The regional capital of Dnipro also experienced casualties and fires due to the attacks. Additionally, a woman was injured in a Russian drone attack in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, as reported by local officials.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine escalated when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
