Florida Man Arrested for Stealing Serviceman's Vehicle and Causing Dog's Death

A man from Palmetto Bay, Florida, who was wanted by Colorado authorities for stealing a serviceman's vehicle and causing the death of his dog, has been apprehended by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Andrew Lee Jansen, 28, was taken into custody on Saturday morning. The incident involved Andrew Beckham, a resident of Aurora, Colorado, who had hired Jansen to look after his home and dog, Maverick, while he was away on deployment. However, both Maverick and Jansen went missing in early April, along with Beckham's blue Subaru.

Surveillance footage captured Jansen and Maverick leaving Beckham's house on April 2. The stolen car was later found in Denver, with Maverick found dead inside. Jansen was arrested after he interfered with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel who were assisting his father. Deputies responded to the situation, and Jansen attempted to flee. An off-duty deputy at Jackson South Hospital recognized and apprehended Jansen when he arrived to visit his father, who had been taken there by MDFR.

Jansen was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his booking photo showed him still wearing a hospital visitor sticker. Authorities have stated that he will be extradited to Colorado to face the charges against him. The capture of Jansen brings closure to the case involving the stolen vehicle and the tragic death of Maverick, the serviceman's beloved dog.
