Arrest Made in Iowa City Shooting Incident: Suspect Apprehended in Georgia

A 17-year-old suspect involved in a shooting incident in downtown Iowa City that left five people injured has been apprehended in Georgia. Damarian M. Jones was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service near Atlanta and is currently held in the Clayton County Jail awaiting extradition to Iowa. Jones is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and willful injury, following the early morning shooting on April 19 at the Downtown Pedestrian Mall. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The incident occurred during a large fight involving around 40 individuals on East College Street. Jones allegedly obtained a firearm during the altercation and fired six shots into a crowd, resulting in five people being injured. One victim sustained a life-threatening head injury and remains in critical condition, while others suffered serious injuries requiring surgery. The police have recovered firearms, ammunition, and accessories as part of the investigation.
