Costco's Expansion Plans: New Warehouses, Gas Stations, and Menu Changes
Costco, a popular warehouse retailer known for its bulk items, affordable food court options, and discounted gas, has announced plans to open 30 or more new warehouses annually in the near future. CEO Ron Vachris revealed that roughly half of these new locations will be in the United States, with the company already making progress on its expansion efforts.
Currently, Costco has a presence in all states except for Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Wyoming. In several states, including Arkansas, Delaware, Kansas, and others, there are only a few Costco locations, indicating room for further growth in those areas.
New Costco warehouses have recently opened in various locations, such as Roseville, California, St. George, Utah, and Forney and Liberty Hill, Texas. Additional openings are scheduled for May, including a warehouse in New Braunfels, Texas, and North Visalia, California. A significant new location in Monterrey, Mexico, is also set to open this month.
Looking ahead, Costco has announced plans for new warehouses in June, July, and August, with locations in the U.S., Taiwan, and other international markets. The company is also considering future expansion in Mexico, Canada, Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
While specific details about upcoming warehouse openings are not listed on Costco's website, there are plans for standalone gas stations in Mission Viejo, California, and Hawaii. Additionally, a new Costco warehouse in Fresno, California, is in the works to replace an existing store, and efforts to bring Costco to other locations like Southborough, Massachusetts, and Eagle, Idaho, are ongoing.
In Missouri, officials have approved a plan to bring a Costco to Lake St. Louis, which would be the sixth location in the region. Construction is also expected to begin on a Costco warehouse in Scottsdale, Arizona, marking the company's first location on tribal land.
