Q’orianka Kilcher Files Lawsuit Against James Cameron and Twentieth Century Fox Over Avatar Character Likeness
A lawsuit was filed by indigenous actress Q’orianka Kilcher against filmmaker James Cameron and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., claiming that the character Neytiri in the movie "Avatar" was based on her likeness without her permission. Kilcher alleged that Cameron used a photograph of her from a 2005 Los Angeles Times article to design Neytiri's face. The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Cameron allegedly directed artists to create physical sculptures and digital models of Neytiri based on Kilcher's lower facial features.
