Trial Begins for Men Accused of Planning Arson Attacks on Properties Linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer

Three men are facing trial for allegedly planning arson attacks on properties associated with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The accused individuals, Roman Lavrynovych, Petro Pochynok, and Stanislav Carpiuc, are charged with conspiracy to damage property by fire between April 1 and May 13 of the previous year. Lavrynovych faces additional charges of intentionally setting fire to two properties on May 11 and 12, 2021.
The incidents in question involve a fire at a house converted into flats in Islington on May 11 and another fire at Sir Keir's former residence in Kentish Town the following day. The trial commenced at the Old Bailey on Monday, with Duncan Atkinson KC set to lead the prosecution when proceedings officially begin on Wednesday. Lavrynovych has denied the charges against him, including two alternative charges of recklessly endangering life through arson.
The defendants, Lavrynovych, Carpiuc, and Pochynok, have all pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against them. The trial is anticipated to run until the end of May, with a jury tasked with examining the evidence and reaching a verdict. The case will shed light on the alleged conspiracy to commit arson attacks on properties linked to the Prime Minister, with the legal process set to unfold over the coming weeks.
