Chinese Nationals Charged with Wire Fraud Conspiracy in Burma and Cambodia: Cryptocurrency Investment Scam Uncovered

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia recently revealed charges of wire fraud conspiracy against Chinese individuals involved in a scam that targeted Americans in Burma and Cambodia. Two Chinese nationals, Huang Xingshan and Jiang Wen Jie, were accused of managing a cryptocurrency investment fraud compound in Burma and later in Cambodia. They trafficked individuals who were coerced into posing as U.S. banks and the New York City Police Department to steal from Americans. The compound in Burma operated until it was seized by authorities, leading to the relocation of Huang and Jiang to Cambodia, where they continued their fraudulent activities. Huang and Jiang were arrested in Thailand on immigration charges earlier this year. The investigation uncovered their involvement in physical punishment and supervising workers who defrauded American victims. The Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on Cambodian individuals and businesses involved in cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes using forced labor and violence.
