Purdue Pharma to Forfeit $225 Million in Opioid Crisis Settlement

A judge is set to order Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of OxyContin, to forfeit $225 million to the Justice Department, paving the way for the company to settle numerous lawsuits related to its involvement in the opioid crisis. This forfeiture is part of a 2020 agreement to resolve both civil and criminal investigations against the company. If approved by the judge, Purdue will not face additional penalties in exchange for settling the remaining lawsuits.
