South Carolina Issues Blue Alert for Suspect in Shooting of Law Enforcement Officer

Authorities in South Carolina have issued a statewide Blue Alert in connection to the shooting of a law enforcement officer in Blackville. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Lacey Nicole Cushman, is being sought by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Cushman is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing around 200 pounds. She may be traveling in a white 2011 Chevrolet Traverse with a South Carolina license plate 7061RU, heading towards Bamberg County.
The injured officer, whose identity and condition have not been disclosed, sustained serious wounds in the shooting incident on Gardenia Road. The Blue Alert program, established in 2012, aims to quickly inform the public when a suspect is involved in harming or abducting a law enforcement officer. This rapid dissemination of information helps prevent suspects from fleeing and minimizes risks to public safety.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Lacey Nicole Cushman's whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately. For media inquiries, individuals can reach out to SLED Public Information Officer Renee Wunderlich at [email protected]. It is essential to verify updates through the official SLED website to stay informed about the ongoing search for the suspect.
