Newark Fire Incident: Multiple Buildings Evacuated, Firefighters Hospitalized

A significant fire broke out in Newark, affecting multiple buildings and leading to the evacuation of numerous residents and hospitalization of several firefighters. The incident began at 196 Jefferson Street and quickly escalated, prompting the response of over 100 Newark firefighters. The fire spread to adjacent buildings at 194, 192, 190, and 188 Jefferson Street before being contained around 3:24 a.m. Six firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to University Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no residents were injured, but 59 individuals were displaced as a result of the fire. The Newark Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross were on-site to assist those affected with relocation support. The cause and origin of the fire are currently being investigated by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
