Alabama Governor Sets Execution Time Frame for Death Row Inmate Jeffery Lee

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has set a specific time frame for the execution of death row inmate Jeffery Lee following a directive from the Supreme Court of Alabama allowing the sentence to proceed. In a letter dated April 15, 2026, the governor designated a 30-hour window for the execution to take place, starting at 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, and ending at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026. Lee was found guilty of the capital murders of Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson, as well as the attempted murder of Helen King. The Supreme Court's order acts as the official death warrant.
Governor Ivey stated in the letter that she currently has no plans to grant clemency in Lee's case. However, she emphasized that she retains the authority, as per the Alabama Constitution, to issue a reprieve or commutation at any time before the execution is carried out. The execution will be conducted by the Alabama Department of Corrections in compliance with state laws and procedures. Any updates or changes related to the execution process would be subject to further legal or executive actions.
