Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez Released from Hospital, Arrested by Department of Justice: Updates on ICE Shooting Incident

Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, who was shot by ICE officers in Patterson last week, was released from a Modesto hospital and promptly arrested by the Department of Justice. He is now being transported to the Sacramento County jail for processing. Mendoza Hernandez had been in the ICU at Doctors Medical Center, where he underwent multiple surgeries for seven gunshot wounds. ICE officials claim that Mendoza Hernandez used his car to attack them during a traffic stop on April 7, a narrative that is disputed by his lawyer and a witness. The FBI has been present at the hospital with Mendoza Hernandez but has not confirmed that he is in custody. His lawyer, Patrick Kolasinski, stated that the Department of Justice is handling the charges. Mendoza Hernandez is a dual citizen of El Salvador and Mexico and does not have legal status in the US. He was acquitted of a murder charge in El Salvador in 2019, and it is unclear if he faces other charges in the US, Mexico, or El Salvador. The FBI has not disclosed the charges against Mendoza Hernandez at this time.
