Pro-Palestine Activist Pleads Guilty to Arson of NYPD Vehicles: Supporters Rally for Freedom

A supporter of the pro-Palestine movement and critic of ICE, Jakhi Lodgson-McCray, confessed to setting fire to 11 NYPD vehicles in a Brooklyn parking lot last year. Lodgson-McCray, 22, from Brooklyn, pleaded guilty to a federal arson charge, facing a minimum of five years in prison. He admitted to intentionally setting fire to the vehicles, causing significant damage, in a Brooklyn Federal Court hearing attended by his supporters.

Lodgson-McCray's supporters, wearing shirts with messages of support, emphasized his bravery and dedication to his community. They expressed solidarity with him and vowed to continue fighting for his freedom. The arson incident occurred in a parking lot near the 83rd Precinct stationhouse in Bushwick, following a protest against the NYPD's treatment of Puerto Rican Day Parade attendees.

The FDNY quickly extinguished the fires, preventing injuries but causing extensive damage to the vehicles. Lodgson-McCray was captured on video entering the lot and setting ablaze 10 NYPD vehicles and a trailer. Despite attempting to flee, he left behind evidence that led investigators to identify him. The arson incident occurred just before a planned protest, potentially impacting the NYPD's response capabilities.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella condemned Lodgson-McCray's actions, highlighting the risks posed to first responders and nearby residents. The NYPD estimated the damages at over $800,000, with Lodgson-McCray facing multiple protest-related charges in Manhattan and Queens. His sentencing date is pending, as he awaits the consequences of his arson attack on the NYPD vehicles.
