Man Arrested for Threatening President Trump on Facebook: Details and Legal Consequences

A man from Great Barrington, Massachusetts, has been arrested for allegedly making threats against President Donald J. Trump. Andrew D. Emerald, 45, was indicted on eight counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications. He is accused of posting messages on Facebook threatening to harm and kill the President. Emerald was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts, today at 2:30 p.m.

The indictment states that between May 2025 and July 2025, Emerald made eight separate threatening Facebook posts directed at President Trump. The charge of interstate transmission of threatening communications carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on sentencing guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement of Emerald's arrest and charges was made by United States Attorney Leah Foley and Ted Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Boston Division. The investigation received assistance from the United States Secret Service, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Great Barrington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow from the Springfield Branch Office is handling the prosecution of the case.
