Earthquake Alert: 7.8 Magnitude Quake Hits Northern Molucca Sea, Indonesia

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 has struck the Northern Molucca Sea region in Indonesia, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km (6.21 miles) on Thursday.

The US tsunami warning system has issued alerts stating that tsunami waves are possible within 1,000km of the epicenter, affecting the coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 120 km from the city of Ternate in Indonesia's North Maluku province, which has a population of over 205,000 people, as reported by USGS.
