Novo Nordisk Introduces Subscription Program for Wegovy Obesity Drug: Affordable and Predictable Pricing for Patients

Novo Nordisk has introduced a new subscription program for its Wegovy obesity drug products, offering cash-paying patients lower and predictable monthly prices. Patients can choose from three-, six-, or 12-month subscriptions for the Wegovy injection or the two highest doses of the pill. The longer the plan, the lower the monthly pricing, potentially saving patients up to $1,200 a year on the injection and $600 a year on the pill. The subscription program ensures flat monthly prices, even if patients switch doses, and is available through various telehealth partners.
The program aims to help patients start and stay on therapy by managing pricing considerations. Staying on GLP-1s has been challenging due to access issues and side effects, with a significant number of patients discontinuing treatment within a year. Novo's pill, Wegovy, faces competition from Eli Lilly's upcoming oral GLP-1, prompting the need to attract new patients. Cash-paying patients can currently pay $149 per month for lower doses of the pill, with the 4-milligram dose increasing to $199 per month in August. The 7.2-milligram dose will be added to the subscription program later.
Novo Nordisk's subscription plans offer a convenient and cost-effective way for patients to access Wegovy, ensuring consistent pricing and potentially saving them money. The program addresses the challenges patients face in staying on therapy and aims to support their treatment journey. With the introduction of the subscription program, Novo is providing a valuable solution for patients seeking affordable and reliable access to obesity treatment.
