Previewing the 71st Annual Ivor Novello Awards: Celebrating Songwriters and Composers

The 71st annual Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, will take place on May 21 in London. The awards honor the craft, originality, and cultural impact of songs and screen compositions, with past honorees including Paul McCartney, Adele, and Elton John. This year, 61 British, Irish, or U.K.-resident songwriters and composers, along with their international collaborators, have received nominations, with 34 first-time nominees. Leading nominees include Olivia Dean, Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell, Jacob Alon, Self Esteem, and Kae Tempest, each receiving two nominations.

Little Simz, Lola Young, Damon Albarn, Lily Allen, and Florence Welch are also among the nominees. Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" continues to make an impact, while CMAT and Myles Smith receive their second nominations. The awards recognize music by British, Irish, or UK-resident songwriters, with American writers eligible when collaborating with an eligible co-writer. The Ivors Academy Chief Executive and Chair congratulated the nominees, highlighting the strength, diversity, and global influence of British and Irish songwriting.

The nominees span various categories, including Best Album, Best Contemporary Song, Best Song Musically and Lyrically, PRS for Music Most Performed Work, Rising Star Award with Amazon Music, Best Original Film Score, and Best Television Soundtrack. The Ivor Novello Awards are a prestigious recognition of excellence in music, celebrating exceptional craft and originality in songwriting and composing. The winners will be celebrated at The Ivors with Amazon Music on May 21.
