Fatal Injection: The Tragic Case of Christina Gourkani and the Unlicensed Cosmetologist

A cosmetologist from Florida has been convicted in a California court for administering a fatal injection to a model known for resembling Kim Kardashian. Vivian Alexandra Gomez, 53, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license in the death of Christina Gourkani. Gourkani hired Gomez to perform an illegal gluteal silicon injection, which led to her rapid decline in health and subsequent death.

The tragic incident occurred in April 2023 when Gomez flew to San Francisco to meet Gourkani at a hotel for the procedure. Following the injections, Gourkani became severely ill, prompting her fiancée to call 911. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Gourkani passed away the next day due to respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism.

Injectable silicon injections for body contouring are not approved by the FDA and can result in severe injuries, disfigurement, and death. Gomez was arrested upon her return to Florida and extradited to San Mateo County to face charges. After a 15-day trial, she was found guilty and is now in custody without bail awaiting sentencing, which could lead to up to seven years in state prison.

The tragic outcome of this illegal procedure serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unlicensed cosmetic treatments. It is essential to prioritize safety and seek licensed professionals for any cosmetic procedures to avoid such devastating consequences.
