Powering Progress: The $33.3 Billion Natural Gas Plant and Data Center Project in Southern Ohio

A proposed $33.3 billion natural gas plant in southern Ohio is set to power a major data center project, according to two federal government agencies. The facilities, which will include a massive 10 gigawatt data center, are planned to be built on U.S. Department of Energy-owned land in Piketon. SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group, will be responsible for constructing the natural gas plant and will also invest $4.2 billion in new transmission lines across southern Ohio, to be built by American Electric Power (AEP Ohio). Construction is expected to commence this year, with any excess transmission being fed into the broader grid.
This groundbreaking project will see the development of a significant natural gas plant in southern Ohio to support a major data center initiative. The collaboration between SB Energy and AEP Ohio will not only bring new infrastructure to the region but also contribute to the overall energy grid. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture.
