Remembering the Fallen: Honoring the Heroes of the Western Iraq Military Plane Crash

A tragic incident occurred last week in western Iraq, where a military refueling plane crashed, resulting in the loss of six U.S. service members, including Tech Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt. Pruitt, a proud military member from Bardstown, Kentucky, leaves behind her husband and two children. She had a successful military career, serving as an assistant flight chief of operations and an instructor in operating the boom on the KC-135 aircraft.
The crash victims were identified as members of the 99th Air Refueling Squadron from Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base in Birmingham, Alabama, and an Ohio Air National Guard base in Columbus. The incident occurred during operations against Iran, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. The loss of these service members has deeply impacted their families and the Air Force community.
Among the fallen heroes was Capt. Seth R. Koval, an instructor pilot with 19 years of service, and Capt. Curtis J. Angst, a pilot with a decade of military experience. Maj. John A. “Alex” Klinner, who had just been promoted to major, also lost his life in the crash. Tech Sgt. Tyler Simmons, a boom operator, and Capt. Ariana G. Savino, a pilot and chief of current operations, were also among those who perished in the tragic incident.
The families and loved ones of these brave service members are mourning their loss and remembering their dedication to serving their country. The impact of their sacrifice will be felt by their communities and the military for years to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these fallen heroes as they navigate this difficult time.
