Philadelphia Orchestra's 60th Annual Residency at SPAC: A Summer of Spectacular Performances

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) is thrilled to announce the return of the Philadelphia Orchestra for a nearly three-week residency starting on August 5. The season will commence with a spectacular program featuring works by Tchaikovsky, including Symphony No. 5, “Romeo and Juliet,” and the iconic “1812 Overture.” Throughout the residency, the orchestra will showcase pieces by renowned composers such as Aaron Copland, Antonín Dvořák, and Antonio Vivaldi.

On August 15, the Philadelphia Orchestra will commemorate 60 years since both SPAC’s inception and the ensemble’s first residency at the venue. To mark this milestone, the orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the same piece that inaugurated their season in 1966. SPAC CEO Elizabeth Sobol expressed excitement about this significant event, emphasizing the enduring partnership between SPAC and the orchestra.

During their residency, the Philadelphia Orchestra will be joined by esteemed guest musicians, including Josh Groban, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Emanuel Ax. The season will also feature the SPAC debuts of pianists Jeneba Kanneh-Mason and Michelle Cann, as well as violinist Bomsori Kim. The residency will culminate on August 22 with the popular annual film nights, where attendees can enjoy live orchestral performances accompanying screenings of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1” and “Star Wars: A New Hope.”

SPAC President Christopher Shiley expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, which promises a diverse range of performances, including masterworks, SPAC premieres, and programs inspired by the themes of ‘Seasons’ and America’s 250th anniversary. Tickets for the Philadelphia Orchestra’s 60th annual residency at SPAC will be available for members on Monday at 10 a.m. and for the general public on March 25 at 10 a.m. Visit the SPAC website for a complete schedule of performances and ticket information.
