Exploring Noah Kahan's 'Porch Light': A Deep Dive into the Inspiration Behind the Song and His Upcoming Album, The Great Divide

Noah Kahan has released a new single titled "Porch Light," which is the second track from his upcoming album, The Great Divide, set to be released on April 24 via Mercury Records. The song was co-written by Kahan and producer Aaron Dessner during their first collaborative session and was produced by Kahan, Dessner, and Gabe Simon. It was recorded at Dessner's Long Pond Studio in Hudson, New York, and Gold Pacific Studios in Nashville.
The inspiration behind "Porch Light" came from the emotional burden Kahan felt he placed on his family by sharing their lives in his previous album, Stick Season. The song is sung from his mother's perspective, reflecting on themes of fame, pain, and acceptance.
The Great Divide was written and recorded in various locations, including Nashville, Guilford, Vermont, upstate New York, and Only, Tennessee. Following the success of Stick Season, which earned him a Best New Artist nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards, Kahan released the lead single, "The Great Divide," in January.
Kahan will embark on a 30-date tour this summer in support of the new album, starting with shows in Orlando and continuing to cities like Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, among others. The tour will conclude on August 31 in Seattle and will feature support from Gigi Perez and Annabelle Dinda on select dates, including performances at Boston's Fenway Park.
Prior to the album release, Kahan will debut his documentary, Noah Kahan: Out of Body, at SXSW on March 16, followed by its release on Netflix. The film offers a deeper look into Kahan's journey and creative process, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes glimpse into his music and life.
