Swatting Incident at Disneyland: A Cautionary Tale of False Reports and Police Response

A false report of a mass shooting at Disneyland led to a swatting incident, where police swarmed the popular theme park in Southern California. The Anaheim Police Department responded to the hoax calls, sending at least a dozen police cruisers to the scene. Despite the large police presence, the park was not evacuated, and the situation was cleared without any actual threat.
During the incident, a live streamer named Oblivion was streaming from Disneyland and was questioned by security and local police before being asked to leave the park. Oblivion claimed to be the victim of swatting, where someone makes a false emergency report to bring armed police to a location. The streamer's presence at the park may have contributed to the police response, but the exact connection is unclear.
In a video of the encounter, Oblivion can be heard explaining to authorities that he was being swatted while streaming to thousands of viewers. A Disney employee in the video mentioned that the streamer was disrupting business at the park, leading to his removal. Despite fans interacting with Oblivion and taking photos with him, he was escorted out of the park by Disney security.
Earlier on the same day, another pair of livestreamers were swatted at a mall in Southern California. Zavalahimself and Amanda Solis were streaming from a store at Westfield Santa Anita Mall when police entered with rifles drawn. A false 911 call had claimed that the pair were armed with rifles and bombs, preparing to harm people in the mall.
The incidents at Disneyland and the mall highlight the dangers of swatting, a reckless prank that can put lives at risk and waste law enforcement resources. It is essential for individuals to be cautious about their online presence and report any suspicious activity to prevent such dangerous situations.
Swatting incidents like these serve as a reminder of the potential consequences of false emergency reports and the need for increased awareness and prevention measures. It is crucial for authorities to investigate such incidents thoroughly and for the public to be vigilant about the risks associated with swatting.
