Op Shop Volunteer Makes Shocking Discovery: Cannabis, Cash, and Teens Lead to Police Intervention

A surprising discovery was made at a Southland op shop when a volunteer worker found a bag left at the door that contained cannabis, cash, and two teenagers who returned looking for it. The police were called and quickly detained the pair, uncovering drugs, a weapon, a scanner, and over $4500 in cash related to alleged illegal activities. The incident occurred on February 18 when the volunteer noticed the bag with a distinctive smell and contents upon opening it. The police arrived promptly to handle the situation as the agitated youths came back to retrieve the misplaced bag.

The swift response from the local police led to the detention of the two teenagers under the Search and Surveillance Act. The bag contained 43.2g of cannabis, scales, ziplock bags, and $3700 in cash. Further investigation led the authorities to the youths' vehicle where an air pistol, a police scanner, and an additional $810 were found. The 16-year-old male and 16-year-old female were arrested and taken to the police station for further questioning.

The cooperation between the op shop staff and the police resulted in a successful outcome in recovering drugs, a weapon, a scanner, and a total of $4510 from illegal activities. The incident showcased the importance of vigilance and quick action in such situations, ultimately leading to a positive resolution for all involved.
