MH370 Families Call for Extension of Ocean Infinity Search Contract

The families of the passengers on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 are calling on the Malaysian government to extend its contract with Ocean Infinity, a deep-sea exploration company, to continue the search for the missing aircraft. The Boeing 777 disappeared in 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, sparking one of the most enduring mysteries in aviation history. Despite multiple search operations in the southern Indian Ocean, the wreckage has not been found.

Last year, Malaysia agreed to a contract with Ocean Infinity under a "no find, no fee" arrangement, but the search has not yielded any results so far. The search operations faced challenges due to weather and sea conditions, with the second phase ending in January. The government is committed to keeping the families informed and will provide updates as needed.

Voice370, a group representing the families, believes that Ocean Infinity may not resume the search before the contract ends in June due to upcoming winter conditions in the southern hemisphere. They are urging the government to allow Ocean Infinity to extend the contract and consider other exploration firms. An extension without changing the terms of the agreement would enable the search to continue without delay.

Ocean Infinity had previously conducted searches for the plane without success. Malaysian investigators have not reached a conclusion about the fate of the flight, leaving open the possibility that the aircraft was deliberately diverted from its course. The families of the passengers remain hopeful that the search efforts will continue until the answers they seek are found.
