Alleged Cartel Leader 'La Rana' Charged with Narcoterrorism and Drug Trafficking in San Diego

Federal prosecutors in San Diego have filed charges against alleged cartel leader René Arzate-García, also known as "La Rana," for narcoterrorism, terrorism support, and drug trafficking offenses related to smuggling drugs into the United States. Arzate-García is accused of being a key figure in the Sinaloa Cartel, overseeing trafficking operations in Tijuana and surrounding areas, involving fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana crossing the border into Southern California.
The charges also include allegations of violence, kidnappings, and killings in Mexico linked to cartel activities. The U.S. Department of State has offered rewards of up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Arzate-García and his brother, Alfonso Arzate-García, known as "Aquiles." The reward program is in collaboration with the DEA San Diego Field Division and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California.
Court documents claim that Arzate-García controlled the Tijuana trafficking region for the cartel, importing large quantities of drugs into the U.S., laundering drug proceeds, and corrupting public officials. The indictment is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cartel leadership along the U.S.-Mexico border, following federal actions under policies labeling the cartel as a foreign terrorist organization.
Arzate-García is currently a fugitive, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the FBI or DEA. It is important to note that the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
