Man Sentenced to Prison for $1 Million Concert-Promoter Fraud Scheme

A man from Dallas has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for defrauding investors of over $1 million in a fake concert-promoter scheme. Carlos Desean Goodspeed, 45, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges in October 2025. The judge also ordered Goodspeed to repay the money to 17 victims of his scheme. Goodspeed operated a business called "Straight Like That Entertainment" where he falsely claimed to be a concert promoter for A-list artists like Beyonce, Bad Bunny, Future, Nicki Minaj, and Tyler the Creator. One victim wired $180,000 to Goodspeed for Tyler the Creator shows, but the money was used for personal expenses instead of ticket purchases.
During the sentencing hearing, a victim shared that she invested part of her inheritance with Goodspeed to cover medical bills for a relative with cancer. Goodspeed failed to repay her, leading her to take out loans for funeral expenses. While on pretrial release, Goodspeed allegedly continued to solicit and receive investments, violating his release conditions.
