Minneapolis Rally Demands Removal of Federal Immigration Agents: Honoring Alex Pretti and Advocating for Change

In south Minneapolis, a rally was held at Whittier Park to honor the life of Alex Pretti, who was fatally shot by federal border patrol agents. The demonstrators gathered to demand the complete removal of federal immigration agents from Minnesota, expressing grief, anger, and determination. Chants echoed through the cold February air as participants called for accountability and an end to what they perceive as an occupation by Federal Agents.
Representatives Angie Craig and Ilhan Omar revealed that the number of federal immigration agents in Minnesota had decreased to fewer than 500 from nearly 3,000 during Operation Metro Surge. Despite this reduction, protesters at the march insisted that even 500 agents were too many, emphasizing the need for ICE to leave the city. The community remains committed to showing up and advocating for change.
The crowd marched from Whittier Park to Alex Prettiās memorial at 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, where they observed a moment of silence. Protestors are demanding accountability for the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, as well as systemic changes to ICE. They reject the use of masks, armed patrols, and data gathering on individuals, considering it unacceptable.
As reported by CNN, the Trump administration intends to continue targeted immigration enforcement nationwide, moving away from broad sweeps seen in Minnesota. The community remains vigilant and determined to push for justice and reform. The country needs to recognize that the fight for change has not ceased, and the voices of those affected by immigration enforcement must be heard.
