Reviving Tradition: Lee Paton's Restoration of Carlisle's Mayoral Robe

Having recently relocated to Cumbria after living in London for twenty years, Paton established his business, Godener, in Newbiggin. The meticulous process of creating the new robe involves intricate needlework, including delicate embroidery and the use of gold threads. Paton's attention to detail is evident in the 69 mini rosettes adorning the robe, each requiring 45 minutes to complete.

The new robe, designed to be lighter and more comfortable than its predecessor, has been well-received by Carlisle's current mayor, Councillor Jeanette Whalen, who appreciates the improved functionality and elegance of the garment.
Cllr Whalen highlighted the necessity of replacing the old robe, which had become worn and unwearable over the years, causing inconvenience during ceremonial events.
