Deadline Approaching: Claim Your Share of $30 Million Settlement in 23andMe Lawsuit

The deadline to claim part of a $30 million settlement in a lawsuit against 23andMe is approaching. In 2023, the company disclosed a security breach due to a "credential stuffing attack," leading to a class action lawsuit. A $30 million settlement was proposed in September 2024, and later, 23andMe filed for bankruptcy in March 2025. The company was sold to TTAM Research Institute in July, led by co-founder Anne Wojcicki. Individuals impacted by the breach have a limited time to file a claim.
To be eligible for a payment, individuals must have been 23andMe members between May 1, 2023, and October 1, 2023, residing in the U.S. during that period, and notified of their compromised personal information. Hackers accessed accounts during the attack, compromising data of 6.9 million users, particularly affecting those who used the DNA Relatives feature. The class action lawsuit accused 23andMe of failing to protect users, with a focus on Jewish and Chinese users.
Claimants can submit a claim online or via mail using the class member ID provided in the notice. The deadline for most claim submissions is 11:59 p.m. CT on Tuesday, February 17, unless notified on January 5, 2026, with a deadline of Sunday, March 1, 2026. Those impacted by the breach will receive $165, while additional benefits require a claim form submission. Extraordinary claims may be eligible for up to $10,000 in cash, with evidence of losses required.
Payments will be processed after 23andMe's bankruptcy reconciliation is completed, which may take some time. Claimants can also enroll in "Privacy & Medical Shield + Genetic Monitoring" for five years. The settlement administrators will provide updates on the process, and claim submission options will be available indefinitely. More information on the settlement can be found on the settlement website.
