The letters were discovered in a Nashville home and donated to the Metro Nashville Archives in 2016. Ray, originally from New York, met Jane while attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville. After Ray was drafted into the Army in 1942, the couple reconnected through letters, leading to their marriage in November of the same year.
