Toledo Resident Indicted for Threatening Vice President JD Vance and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials

A Toledo resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury for making threats to kill Vice President JD Vance. Shannon Mathre, 33, allegedly stated that he planned to use his M14 automatic gun to carry out the threat. Mathre was apprehended by the Secret Service on February 6. In addition to the threat against the vice president, Mathre was found to be in possession of child sexual abuse materials during his arrest. The Department of Justice commended the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement in bringing justice to Mathre for his heinous actions. Further investigation revealed that Mathre was involved in the receipt and distribution of sexually explicit images involving minors between December 31, 2025, and January 21, 2026.
