Maryland Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Federal Official Russell Vought

A man from Maryland has been arrested for the attempted murder of Russell Vought, the director of the federal Office of Management and Budget. Colin Demarco, 26, is facing charges of attempted murder, criminal solicitation to commit murder, and carrying a concealed weapon. Vought's representative expressed gratitude for law enforcement's efforts in ensuring the safety of Vought and his family.

The incident took place on August 10 when a suspicious person was reported at Vought's residence. The individual, wearing a surgical mask and rubber gloves, was seen with a concealed weapon on the porch. The suspect inquired about the intended victim before leaving the scene. Surveillance footage helped identify the suspect, who had gathered information about the victim's residence and firearms, as well as solicited others online to commit the murder.

Following his arrest on January 16, Demarco was extradited to Virginia and is currently held at the Arlington County Detention Facility. Reports indicate that he claimed to be writing a manifesto and had notes on weapons and a "body disposal guide." Demarco allegedly went to Vought's home to discuss a conservative proposal called Project 2025, denying any intention to harm Vought or possessing a firearm.

The complaint against Demarco revealed his concerns about the 2024 election and fears of a fascist takeover, leading to his actions. The case underscores the importance of law enforcement's swift response and the vigilance required to prevent potential threats. The safety and security of public officials remain a top priority in ensuring a safe environment for all individuals.
