Justice Served: Arizona Woman Arrested for Murder of Children in Southern California Home

An Arizona woman has been arrested in Tucson for the murder of her two children, who were decapitated in their Southern California home. Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr. and Natalie Sumiko Brothwell, a couple from Lancaster, were sentenced to life in prison for the brutal killings of their two eldest children. The judge described the children as "helpless" and condemned the couple for forcing their surviving children to witness the aftermath of the stabbings and decapitations of their siblings.
Maurice and Maliaka were stabbed and decapitated in their home on November 29, 2020. The younger brothers, aged 8 and 9 at the time, were deprived of food and made to look at their siblings' bodies for several days. The bodies remained in the home for five days until authorities were alerted by a gas leak report. Taylor was arrested shortly after the incident, while Brothwell was apprehended in Arizona almost a year later. Both parents were convicted of first-degree murder and child abuse.
During sentencing, Judge Lisa M. Strassner criticized the lack of accountability from the parents and emphasized the children's helplessness. Brothwell maintained her innocence, claiming she tried to save her children, while the District Attorney described the crime as a "monstrous act of cruelty." The sentencing to consecutive life terms ensures that both parents will never be released from prison. The focus now shifts to the care and recovery of the surviving sons, aged 13 and 14.
