Deadly Israeli Airstrikes in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip: 12 Palestinians Killed, Including Women and Children

In Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, hospitals reported that Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 12 Palestinians on Saturday, marking one of the deadliest incidents since a ceasefire agreement was reached in October. The strikes targeted various locations in northern and southern Gaza, including an apartment building in Gaza City and a tent in Khan Younis. Among the casualties were two women and six children from different families.

The Shifa Hospital confirmed that the Gaza City strike claimed the lives of a mother, three children, and a relative, while the Nasser Hospital reported that a strike in a tent camp led to a fire that killed seven individuals, including a father, his three children, and three grandchildren. Since the ceasefire began on Oct. 10, Gaza's Health Ministry has documented over 500 Palestinian fatalities due to Israeli attacks.

The Health Ministry, under the Hamas-led government, maintains detailed records of casualties, which are considered reliable by U.N. agencies and independent experts. Despite the high number of casualties, Israel's military has not provided immediate responses regarding the airstrikes.

The recent escalation of violence in Gaza has once again highlighted the ongoing conflict in the region and the devastating impact it has on civilians. The loss of innocent lives, including women and children, underscores the urgent need for a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize the protection of civilians and work towards sustainable peace in the region.
