Controversy Surrounding Cancelation of Virginia Warehouse Sale to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

A Virginia warehouse sale to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been canceled by Jim Pattison Developments. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's plan to purchase the building for ICE use sparked controversy. Jim Pattison Developments acquired the Ashland, Va., property for around $10.4 million in 2022. The organization completed construction in early 2024 but decided to list the building for lease or sale due to changing operational needs. An offer from a U.S. government contractor was accepted, but upon learning of the buyer and intended use, the sale was called off.
