Navitas Organics Issues Voluntary Recall of 8-Ounce Organic Chia Seeds Due to Salmonella Contamination

Navitas Organics has issued a voluntary recall of specific lots of its 8-ounce Organic Chia Seeds due to potential Salmonella contamination. The company took this precautionary measure after its chia seed supplier initiated a recall, prompting Navitas to remove the affected product from the market. The recalled chia seeds were distributed nationally through retail stores, including Whole Foods Market, and online sellers like Amazon. The affected product can be identified by the 9-digit lot code (beginning with "W") printed on the back of the bag above the nutrition information. The recalled lot codes are as follows: No illnesses or adverse events have been reported in connection with the product, and no other Navitas Organics products are impacted by this recall. Salmonella can cause severe infections, especially in vulnerable populations like young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella can lead to more serious illness if it enters the bloodstream. Consumers in possession of the recalled 8-ounce Organic Chia Seeds with the specified lot numbers are advised not to consume the product. Navitas recommends opening the bag, discarding the chia seeds, and disposing of the packaging in a manner that renders it unusable. Customers can return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. For inquiries or product replacement, Navitas has established a customer hotline at 855-215-5702, operational from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
