Resolution Reached: Duke University and Darian Mensah Settle Legal Dispute

Duke University and quarterback Darian Mensah have reached an agreement outside of court, putting an end to the legal process that began when Mensah entered the transfer portal after the ACC Championship Game. Mensah is expected to join the Miami team. The two parties were set to return to court for a preliminary injunction hearing, but they have now resolved the matter through collaboration and negotiation. Mensah expressed gratitude to Duke University for engaging in discussions and reaching a resolution, wishing the Blue Devils success in the future seasons.

Duke filed a lawsuit against Mensah after he requested to enter the transfer portal, alleging that he violated his contract by attempting to leave the program before completing the arbitration process outlined in the agreement. Mensah had initially signed a lucrative deal with Duke in November 2024 after transferring from Tulane, where he had a successful season as a redshirt freshman quarterback. The lawsuit argued that Mensah's actions breached the contract and caused irreparable harm to Duke.

Despite Duke's efforts to prevent Mensah from entering the transfer portal, a judge denied their request, allowing Mensah to pursue opportunities at other schools. Mensah's legal team emphasized that players should have the freedom to transfer between schools. The resolution outside of court brings closure to the dispute between Mensah and Duke University, allowing Mensah to move forward with his career at Miami.
