Unsealed Court Records Reveal Tragic Details of University of Idaho Murders

The recently unsealed court records have provided a detailed account of the tragic events that occurred at the University of Idaho in November 2022. The records reveal specific details about the injuries sustained by the victims and shed light on their final movements.
A bloodstain pattern analyst reviewed autopsy materials, crime scene photographs, and laboratory testing to prepare for the trial. The expert disclosure outlined the anticipated testimony regarding the case.
The court filing disclosed that Kaylee Goncalves suffered approximately 38 sharp-force wounds, Madison Mogen 28, Xana Kernodle 67, and Ethan Chapin 17. While the full autopsy reports were not included, the key findings from the autopsies were revealed.
All four victims were found in their respective bedrooms at 1122 Kings Road, with no evidence suggesting they left their rooms after the attack. Goncalves and Mogen were found together in Mogen's bedroom, while Chapin was discovered in Kernodle's bedroom. Kernodle was the only victim who showed evidence of movement after the attack, with blood found on the bottoms of her bare feet.
The details of the students' tragic deaths came to light after Bryan Kohberger was sentenced for the killings. Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder in July 2025 and was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.
