Apple Settles $95 Million Siri Eavesdropping Lawsuit: Payments Disbursed to Users
Apple has settled a $95 million class action lawsuit related to allegations that Siri, the virtual assistant, was eavesdropping on users. The lawsuit claimed that Siri could be activated without consent and record conversations that were then shared with third parties. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Apple agreed to the settlement. Payments from the settlement have started being disbursed to qualifying individuals who had Siri-equipped Apple devices between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. Qualifying members could receive up to $20 per device, with a maximum potential payout of $100. The number of valid claims will determine the final payment amount for each claimant. Some Reddit users have reported receiving payments ranging from $8 to $40.10 per device. Claimants are advised to monitor their accounts for payments, as they may take a few weeks to process.
